Never A Dull Moment

My babies got their glasses! They came in last Friday, and we riped into the box like it was Christmas morning, and both John & Audrey where ecstatic to wear their new glasses! First thoughts..."John looks to cute! much to grown up, but cute all the same"! Audrey's "not as bad as I expected, actually very impressed. Still going to take time to get use to seeing my baby girl in glasses." We had a few errands to run, so I decided to make a stop at the local optometrist office to have their glasses fitted while we where out. Little did I know we would be making this place a second home. In the past seven days we have had to have glasses adjusted not once, or even twice but four times! Both John, and Audrey have been pretty good about keeping their glasses on. However, it had given my spunky little girl an outlet for her anger. When she gets mad at me, she will rip the glasses off her face and look at me in the most defying way possible. She also swipes John's glasses off his face when she gets mad at him too. The girl needs a serious attitude adjustment and we are working on doing just that! In other health news, I took Audrey to see the ENT specialist about her ears yesterday and she will be having surgery on March 10Th. I was under the impression they where doing the surgery to put the tubes in her ears, but I was informed by our pediatrician at today's appointment that it's exploratory surgery with the potential of tubes if they find they are needed. We have had a crazy month with our baby girl. We have taken her off dairy and seen a huge difference, she's now in glasses and that too has been a very positive experience, and now we are taking care of her ears. Over all we have seen four different Doctors in the last month some on more than one occasion, and all though it has been a world wind and an emotional time, I am happy to be seeing an end and knowing that we have done everything we possible can to improve the health of my baby girl. I have to mention that she is really bright little girl. Even with all the obstacles she's faced she has still met all her mile stones and beyond!

You can see for yourself just how smart she is,watch this video!

Other than that we have had a pretty crazy, but normal week. Sunday morning while at church John slammed his face on the back of a pew during praise and worship, he chipped his tooth and split his lip. Nothing that a little cold water and a come hugs and kisses couldn't remedy, but enough to make your heart skip a beat when you see blood gushing from your child's mouth. Then on Wednesday morning I let my dog out, off leash as i usually do to take care of his business and wouldn't you know a stupid rabbit runs across his path and there goes my dog! So if you saw me running around the neighborhood in mismatched sweats and slipper with serious bed head please don't judge me. I was just trying to chase down my run away dog, who was sitting on my back patio waiting for me when i finally decided to give up and come home. Yes i had a few choice words for him! And yes he's back on the leash when he has to go out. So that's been our week in a nutshell, more than happy to see it end!

The Good And The Bad

This week has been a real mix of really good moments, the ones you want to remember forever and some really bad ones the ones I wish I could erase. For example John, who has been completely potty trained for months now, suddenly is fighting his bowel movements. I know he has to go, he knows he has to go, but when I ask him he says no. If I try and make him he just sits there, for an entire 15 minutes one time and wont go. Needless to say twice now I have ended up cleaning a NASTY mess because someone couldn't hold it any longer, and the second time I lost it. I said things that hurt his feelings, I yelled and threatened to put him in diapers again, and put my crying boy in his bed an walked away. I was frustrated and angry, and reacted from those feelings and now feel guilty. I went back upstairs and held him, told him I was sorry and that I loved him. I wish I could go back and handle the situation differently, but I can't. I can only move forward and do all that I can to show my boy how proud he makes me, and just how much I love him, and if faced with the situation again I'll learn from my mistakes and handle it like I should have in the first place.
Thankfully there have been many more good moments than bad. Moments like this! When Aaron gets home from work we usually eat dinner right away and then after dinner he spends the next 45 minutes to an hour playing with the kids while I clean the kitchen.
They do puzzles, play hide and seek, wrestle, build towers or whatever else the kids can think up. On this particular night I decided to forgo the dishes so I could watch and try to capture these moments, ones I never want to forget. Have I mentioned how much I love my husband lately. He has no idea the way it makes my heart swell watching him interact with our children. They adore him, and you can tell by the smiles on their faces, and by the giggles and the screeches that can be heard across the house when they have his undivided attention.
I know that after working all day, that some days he would rather come home to a quiet house and be able to sit and relax. But he puts forth the effort almost every night to spend that time with kids, and he'll never know just how much that means to me, and them!
From the time I start making dinner until we are finished eating all John does talk about all the things he and daddy are going to do that night, and just look at how much Audrey adores her daddy, and tell me it doesn't make you smile:) I am so blessed to have such beautiful children, and an amazing man as their father!

There has also been many adorable John & Audrey playing (not fighting) together moments this week. They fight a lot, and sometimes I don't know how much more I can take. But then there are moments like this and I know that it's all worth it, and I would do it all over again.

My Little Valentines

This week we have been preparing for valentines day! Holidays ( big or small) are always so much fun when you have little kids in the house. On Monday, John & Audrey made Valentine cards for their grandparents.

It was a simple craft that included crayons, glue, & glitter, and my kids LOVE glitter:) I also had John write (trace) the name of the recipient on each card, and then sing his own name not traced!!!

Then on Tuesday morning we went to story hour at our Public Library where the theme was also valentines day. John thoroughly looks forward to this hour each week. I'd like to say he enjoys going because of the stories, songs, and crafts, but I'll let you decided for yourself just why John enjoys story hour so much.

Audrey enjoys singing and dancing, but once they start reading stories we lose her, and she ends up just being more of a distraction to the group than anything. So I have found that its much easier to let her play with a toy in the corner.

Like I already said this weeks theme was Valentines Day, so this is what they made for crafts. Don't they look thrilled?

LOL! I laugh every time I look at this picture. I think they where more annoyed that I was making them stand still for a picture than anything. Because they really enjoyed making their hats and sporting them along with all their little friends.

A friend of mine also made us a Valentine garland that the kids and I absolutely love! She's very talented, she's makes and sells Eco friendly toys, pillows, aprons and so much more. Check out her blog here, http://maureencracknellhandmade.blogspot.com

Isn't it adorable? It's all hand made even the pompoms! I'm telling you you'll want to check out the rest of her stuff! She also as an Etsy account, where you can buy her products. There is a link to her shop right on the blog.
Other than that, there has not been much going on this week. I took Audrey to have her hearing tested on Tuesday, and she is hearing but not as clearly as she should, due to the ear infections. Next we see an ENT specialist on the 23rd to talk about putting tubes in her ears, which I'm under the impression should clear everything up. In the meantime we are still waiting for the kids glasses, that should be here any day. They are very anxious for their arrival, hopefully they are as excited to keep them on once we get them!

The Heartache That Comes With Being A Mother.

This week had been an emotional week, and I wasn't really sure how to, or if I even wanted to write about it. However, it's taken up so much of my thoughts this week, I really don't have anything else to write about. On Monday I took the kids to see an eye Dr. because over the last few weeks we noticed Audrey was occasionally crossing both of her eyes when she was trying to focus on something, not both at the same time usually one or the other. The eye Dr., who also happens to be a friends of Aaron suggested that as long as we where bringing Audrey in why not take a look at John as well. I went in on Monday morning prepared to hear, or at least i thought i was prepared to hear that Audrey was going to need to wear glasses or even a patch. I never expected to leave with information that not only did John also need glasses, but that Audrey's eye sight is much worse than I ever imagined. It was a shock, and at first I was handling the information well I put on a big show for the kids when they tried on their frames, because I want them to feel like rock stars in their new glasses. However, on the 3 hour drive home my true emotions started to hit me. My babies, my beautiful blue eyed babies need glasses! I didn't want them to look different than other children, I didn't want glasses to be part of their identity. I know how pitifully shallow it is, but I cried, then and a few more times through out the week. I can't explain why I felt this way because I have always thought that other children in glasses look adorable, and for Pete's sake my husband wears glasses and I still think he's a stud :) I also felt guilty, like I should have been able to do something to prevent this.
I'm happy to say that I have been able to move past these initial feelings, but not without a slap to the face. Doing some research over the past few days, I ran across a web site that allows you to choose farsightedness, or nearsightedness and then enter the prescription number and it shows you how the individual is seeing. When I saw what poor Audrey sees, i cried (again) but for different reasons this time. All I could think is my poor girl. Her vision is so bad she has no idea what the world really looks like everything is just a deep fog with a few shapes and dull colors. It definitely gave me a much needed attitude adjustment. And we are now anxiously awaiting the arrival of her glasses, and can't wait for her to see the beauty that surrounds her for the first time. John is also looking forward to sporting his new glasses, "so he can be a big guy, just like daddy." I'm still a little nerves about the weeks ahead. I wondering if once the glasses get here they'll still be as excited about wearing them, and my mind is continually running through all the challenges they may have to face in the years to come. But for now we'll just take it one day at a time, and of course will keep you updated through out the transition.
